TO THE PEOPLE OF LAURENS COUNTY

When I retired from the Air Force someone asked me what I was gonna do. I told him I was going to move back to the south and probably run for sheriff one day. I've done that now. I told myself at the beginning of this campaign that the worst thing that could happen is I'd get 200 votes and get laughed at. Well, I got 814 votes and although I'm sure there is some snickering going on, I ran a good race and I'm glad I live in a country where I have the right to run for office.

I want to thank each and every one of you for being a part of that experience. If nothing else comes of it, I've had the opportunity to meet some fine folks. I count myself blessed to have been invited into as many homes as I have and to have had the opportunity to talk to as many of you as I did. I've enjoyed standing in front yards, back yards and plowed fields; on porches and under pole barns; I've learned a lot about Laurens County and some of its more colorful history by sitting and listening to you and I'll never forget the experience.

I want to thank all of you who contributed in any way to my campaign. Without you I couldn't have done it and it validates the fact that there always needs to be a choice.

I ask that you pray for me and my family as we continue from this point. My prayers are with all of you.

Sincerely,

Tom McCain
